So gather up friends, experts, and pledges from your friends and associates and head for the hills, hit the trail, take to the shore. It’s a fun event for expert birders and novices alike.
What is a Bird-A-Thon?
A bird-a-thon is a lot like a walk-a-thon. Only instead of sponsoring every mile you walk, sponsors pledge money for every bird species spotted. Teams have twenty-four hours to identify species. The Bird-A-Thon is a way to enjoy nature and hone your birding skills while you raise money for Irvine's education programs.
Do I have to be a skilled birder to participate?
No. It's fun and there are many ways to make your team and your outing successful. By working in teams, you combine your expertise and can better coordinate looking through the field glasses and thumbing through the field guide. More sponsors or higher pledges per species also helps level the playing field when you get to the tally rally. The average pledge per bird is 30¢.
