Richard Louv, author of National Bestseller Last Child in the Woods, and co-founder of the Children & Nature Network coined a term to describe the lack of a child’s routine contact with nature.  He calls this unwanted side-effect Nature Deficit Disorder (NDD).  Earth Day: Kids Unplugged, Irvine Nature Center’s GET OUTSIDE initiative, encourages children and their families to literally “unplug” from video games, television, iPods and other forms of electronics to participate in activities focused on Mother Earth.  On Sunday, April 18, children and their families will enjoy forest exploration, the making of bird feeders, worm bins, and more.  Plus families will have the opportunity to plant trees to help with the reforestation of Irvine’s 116-acre property.   Featured will be two appearances from Bob the Vid Tech from Maryland Public Television.
