OWINGS MILLS, MD (November 3, 2008) – Irvine Nature Center will host its first annual Your Green Home event on Saturday November 15 and Sunday November 16 from 12 – 4 p.m. each day.  The event will present an opportunity for home owners to learn from the experts on how to create green or environmentally friendly spaces in their homes.  The program includes two afternoons of presentations, exhibits, short films, building tours and “buying green” from the Irvine Nature Store.  The event is free and open to the public.

Presentations and exhibits will include information on topics like energy audits, green home renovations, green cleaning products (from home made to those commercially available) and home cleaning services and information on geothermal systems, green home improvements and more.  Presenters will include local businesses who uphold a commitment to the basic tenets of green living, including: TerraLogos, Green Clean, LLC., Apple Plumbing & Heating, Inc., Chesapeake Solar, Ground Loop & Air Conditioning, Inc. and more.  Also Susan Hartsfield, author of Complete Guide to Energy Conservation for Smarties, will present energy/green home tips.  Also shown will be short films “The Story of Stuff” and “Kilowatt Ours, a Plan to Re-Energize America,” both of which investigate the impacts of consumption (one of energy, the other of things) on the environment.

Irvine Nature Center representatives will also educate visitors about “green” living, as eco-friendly products will be available for purchase in the Irvine Nature Store and Center staff will conduct building tours of the brand new, state-of-the-art “green” Nature Center.

“We are so glad to offer this unique opportunity acquiring the tools and information for living greener lives to our members, friends and visitors,” said Irvine Nature Center Executive Director, Peggy F. O’Neill.

“We are also excited that with the genesis of this first annual event, our growing slate of environmental education programs, and products in our Nature Store, that we are continuing to provide our constituents with the information they need to alter their habits and create a healthier environment.”
